A new online service dashboard to improve the interaction between students, teachers and administrators of schools or universities.
In this project I bring to you the design process and development of a dashboard that helps students, teachers and schools or universities administrators to strengthen their relationship.
The Client
Phidelis Technology is a company that provides system solutions with focus on education for Universities, Colleges and Schools. Their main product are dashboards for differents types of users (administrators, parents, teachers and students) that were able to interact between then and many departments of the school or university.
My Role
In my role as Product Designer, I was responsible for redefining and implementing the visual identity, redesigning features, organising and designing content and collaborating with developers to iterate and deliver the final product. I was also responsible for collecting feedback from students, teachers and employees that use the system/dashboard daily to discover problems and improve their experience.
The Context
The way that people interact with the education is changing constantly. The students don’t learn like the people of 10 years ago. Internet and online services have change the way people learn things. A lots of countries have many professionals with senior knowledge that have never been in a University before.
In this context, I was able to develop this project thinking in how to make students feel closer to the teachers and implement features that allowed a belonging feeling.
The Challenge
Improve communication between all the users of the dashboards (Administrators, Teachers, Parents and Students)
Provide online services to students, reducing bureaucracy
Create a solid service that could be easily be implemented in another institutions
The Solution
My approach to get to a solution was to create a good numbers of low-fi prototypes and show them to users, so I could collect feedback and prioritize the main features and information. It was also a very good approach because I could learn more about the users needs, what was missing.
Social Media of Learning
This module of the dashboard is a place where students can interact with teachers and with other students, just like a classroom. Teachers on the other side can post files, tasks, videos and evaluate students… this page was build to increase the interaction between then.
Online Services
A module where students can ask for official documents from the school or university, like school historical, enrollment documentation and other types of documents.
Personal Information
Keeping personal information updated at the institution helps everyone. Students can receive mail at home or online. Parents are able to know more about what’s happening at the school and that way all the users involved can have the same level of information.
This project has a big advantage in front of other projects that I’ve worked. It is in constant progress. The development of the features are based on modules, so it’s possible to keep developing or improving features anytime a new necessity shows up 🙂
